Frequently Asked Questions: QR Codes and using them

Contents

What are QR Codes?

QR Codes are graphical pictures, normally square, that
have information coded within them, that allows a QR
Code reader, typically an app on a mobile device, to
take the user to more useful information. The user may
be passing by your premises, see them in your window,
on a notice board, on a flyer, on your vehicle, on a screen.

Why would I or my business want these?

You want your prospective customers, visitors, passers-by
to more easily access information about your offerings,
services, events, locations. Or more easily: send you an
email; send you a text; phone your organisation up; without
having to type in any contact details, the QR Code provides
this, and a QR Code reader facilitates easy access.

What are the various types of QR Codes?

There are various types:
- a web address that can be used by the app to take the
user directly to a web / Facebook / Instagram / Twitter / ...
page, without having to type in the addresss
- an email address that can be used by the app to
take the user directly to their email app, which
will have initial subject and content wording, the
user being able to modifying this, before deciding
to send the email
- a phone number, that can be used by the app allowing
the user to call that number, without typing the
phone number
- an SMS entry, based on a mobile number, that can
be used by the app to send a SMS text message,
without typing the phone number in, and can have
some initial content, which can be altered by the
user before deciding to send it
- a WiFi entry, that can be used by the app to set up
the WiFi settings of the WiFi in a given location
without the user needing to type anything in
- a location link, that can be used by the app to allow
the user to be taken to a Google Map page with your
facilities central on that map

What are QR Code readers?

A QR Code reader is a facility on a mobile phone or
tablet that uses the in-built camera, to scan a code.
There are various apps that can do this, and many of
them are free, or already built into the mobile device's
software.

What apps, software can be used to read them?

The iPhone and iPad camera can read QR Codes.
Google Lens can read QR Codes. There are also other
reader apps that can be installed that have a wider
range of features, such as keeping a history of what
QR Codes have been used.

What type of design can my QR Codes have?

The QR Codes we are able to provide are attractive,
branded, colourful, interesting patterns. It is still
possible to see the old style: black squares, unattractive
no branding. We pride ourselves in colour matching the
QR Codes we produce, and can include within the pattern
of the graphics of the code an icon / graphic / picture
that is representative of your organisation.

How do we deliver QR Codes?

What is the cost of QR Codes from us?

The prices start from £25 for a simple b/w, non-branded
codes, £35 for a colourful, branded code, which can
include an icon / graphic of your organisation. Have a
look at our gallery to get an idea of what is possible?
For a combination of different types of QR Codes, based
on the same graphics design the price for each extra one
is less than the initial cost for the first.
For more details, see our shop.

How do I request QR Codes from us?

Having given some thought to the type of QR Code you want
(see above), send us an email, with some intial details, we will
then progress it from there to finalise what is required.

Is it necessary to enter a contract with us?

No contract is necessary, for most of the QR Codes we produce
for your organisation, it would be a matter of your contacting
us with the details, your paying, our delivering: i.e. done
and dusted!

If you would like to make use of the tracking capability, this
is something that can be discussed if required.

How do I pay?

We use the organisation SumUp which supports our online shop
and allows for secure payment using credit / debit card.
SumUp is used by many organisations to securely take payment.

Do the QR Codes from us expire?

A static QR Code from us, does not expire. Also the information
in the QR Code we produce for you, when read by the QR Code reader,
goes straight to your web site, etc.
There are occasional seasonal offers we have that are less expensive,
do not include your organisation's graphics, but are still colourful
and attractive. These ones are time-limited, here is an example.

Can the number of scans of the QR Codes be tracked?

We can also provide dynamic QR Codes that allow for the tracking
of the total number of scans that take a user to your web address.
Dynamic QR Codes will not be of interest to many organisations,
but if desired, we can make this happen, either with our direct
assistance, or we can show you how to carry out the tracking for
yourselves.

What is our web site about?

Our web site is about enabling businesses getting up to speed with the
use of QR Codes. Our pages show you what is possible, how to
get QR Codes from us. Our pages also indicated how your prospective
customers, visitors, passers-by, members can benefit from more
easily accessing information about your organisation, how they can
contact you, and if necessary finding our where your locations are.

It's all in the QR Code!
Most likely more useful than you might have thought?!!!
